1st: Be sure to stay well HYDRATED!
This is very important. If you did not bring a water bottle into the park with you, no worries, you can stop by any of the counter service locations and request a "free" cup of ice water to go. Some of the locations around Disney have filtered water while others do not. If you've experienced both, you understand the difference in the taste at some locations. My personal favorite are the Starbucks locations because their water seems to be filtered and has no funny taste. If you do find yourself feeling a little dehydrated or overheated ask the nearest Cast Member where the First Aid Center is located, and they can help you out.
It's Florida and it can get very HOT...enough said. Be sure to pack light-weight, lighter colored clothes that you will be comfortable walking around in for the day. The humidity can get pretty high in Florida during the summer months so take clothes that will breathe.
Cooling accessories can be anything from a little battery operated hand-held fan, a cool water mister, a chilly towel (My personal recommendation are the Frog Togg cooking towels.) and/or a sunvisor or hat of some sort to help keep the sun off the top of your head and out of your eyes.
Take a break during the day and spend a little time enjoying the pool at your Walt Disney World® Resort. All moderate, deluxe and deluxe villa resorts have a slide at their swimming pools while the deluxe and deluxe villa resorts also have a kids water splash pad area and possibly an oversized dumping bucket of water. Plan to take a little time to just RELAX and have some fun! After all, this is your vacation too.
The photos below are of the Mad Hatter's splash pad area at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and the lazy river section of Stormalong Bay at Disney's Beach Club Resort. The Beach Club Resort's pool area is like a mini-water park offering a sandy beach area, zero-entry pool with sandy bottom, lazy river, water slide and more.
A trip to Walt Disney World® Resort isn't complete without treating yourself to at least one Dole Whip. You have the option to either get this pineapple deliciousness in the form of soft-serve ice cream or an ice cream float with Dole pineapple juice. If you are in Disney's Animal Kingdom park, you can choose to have a shot of Meyer's rum added to your Dole Whip. You can also find a variety of ICEE type slushie drinks around Disney's four theme parks. In Magic Kingdom you may find a lemonade slushy, blue raspberry slushie (Beware, this one will stain your mouth very blue!), strawberry lemonade, as well as a Coca Cola slushy in Animal Kingdom and other fun flavors.
Disney realizes the weather in central Florida can be rather warm many months out of the year so they planned for this by adding some fun ways for kid and/or adults to cool off in each of their four theme parks. Magic Kingdom has the big water thrill ride...Splash Mountain, that may get you a little sprinkled and the super cute Casey Jr. Splash 'N' Soak for the little ones to run around while being sprayed with water from the different train cars (Photo at the top of this email.). Epcot has a great mist machine "car wash" area near Test Track. Plus, on your way in to the World Showcase, check out the squirting fountains that come u from the ground - kids love waiting for the water to spray up so they can run through it. Animal Kingdom has the perfect water ride for hot days...Kali River Rapids. You WILL get wet on this one! Hollywood Studios doesn't have a water ride, but if you sit in the front rows at Fantasmic you may get a tad wet. Disney Springs also offers a fun water splash fountain with jets in the ground that spray water up into the air at unpredictable intervals keeping children entertained for a long time. Haha!
You may looked a little drenched after partaking in the fun of these water area, but that's what they were designed for and you'll be refreshed! Hint: Just toss an extra set of clothes in your park bag to change into.
Take advantage of some nice cool air conditioning any chance you have. If you are waiting for others in your group to finish an attraction wait for them inside a nearby gift shop or near the exit to the attraction where you will usually find a spot that has some air conditioning while you wait.
If you have a little one that's getting fussy or too hot? Take advantage of the Baby Care Centers located at each of the parks...he/she will thank you!
8th: The Time of Day You're in the Parks!
It's best to be an early riser and late night owl during this time of year. Plan to be at the parks for park opening so you can have your "must do" list in hand and make your way to those attractions first. This is when you'll be able to ride these with the shortest wait time. Once you've done those, get out of the park during the hottest times mid-day and afternoon with a plan to return around sunset. Evenings in Disney's parks are not only cooler after the sun goes down, but they are beautiful all lit up at night as well.
Enjoy your week!
